An emerging talent on the indie scene, “Fancy” Ryan Clancy has quickly evolved into one of the most intriguing prospects throughout the northeast. Yet a torn ACL led to complete reconstruction of Clancy’s left knee, which has temporarily removed him from the ring.

THE COMPOUND EFFECT
Have you ever wanted to drastically transform your life? Have you dreamt of growing into this amazing being of pure love and greatness? What if I told you that this was possible for every single one of us, but it’s not in the way we think?
Somewhere around seven to ten years ago, I became aware of a very powerful book that changed my life for the better. This book is The Compound Effect, written by author Darren Hardy. It is an incredibly powerful read for anyone interested, and I am going to do my best to give it justice on how it has had a profound effect on my life and well-being.
The general idea of the book is a focus on daily habits and discipline as opposed to drastic constant change. Put simply in my own words, how you do anything is how you do everything.
Small change compounded over a long period of time equals MASSIVE GROWTH. You have the power to completely transform your life, and it only takes one small step at a time. Think of it as similar to what we know about interest. The more that is put into it, the more small payments that accrue and then, the larger the return!
You are the greatest investment that you will ever delve into. So why wouldn’t you make a constant decision every day? I am going to share with you five things that I personally have implemented into my life lessons that I have reaped drastic change, growth, love, and joy from that are simple… and that I think everyone reading can benefit from in regard to compounding growth!
1. Being Present
You are not alone in the realm of having a million things on your plate. I for one could list a constant stream of the challenges and fires I have to face on a daily basis. But I have found a very simple yet complex answer to putting out these fires. Be Here. And I mean truly be here.
When is the last time you put down your phone and just took a deep breath? I promise it is so simple. But I understand the struggle. You may say, “Ryan, I took a breath and I’m still worried.”
And to that I say, breathe deeper!
In my professional setting, whenever I am anxious over an email for a booking application, or let’s say I am in control of a match and my opponent starts to fight back, I simply breathe and remind myself that I am in control, and more importantly, that I AM HERE.
It does wonders. I suggest when eating today, you try and put YouTube away and just enjoy. Soon, just like everything, what was once hard will COMPOUND and it will soon be easy for you to just be.
2. Daily Gratitude
Part of being present comes with gratitude. I have found that it is near IMPOSSIBLE for me to be in a bad mood when I decide to consciously think of a few things I am grateful for. I am currently sidelined with an injury, and that is quite frustrating at times. Thoughts of doubt and comparison creep in. But just as soon as they do, I remind myself of the wonderful people I have in my life. Of my ability to walk and move and talk and love and give! And I feel better already!
There was a time in my life where some of those things weren’t possible. If you find yourself in hell and want to climb out, simply look around at all you have to be grateful for. Start your day writing a few of them down. It will create EVEN MORE for you to be grateful for by the end of it!
3. Daily Physical Practice
It is easy for me to relate to the compound effect because I have lived it. I am now a very strong physically fit professional athlete. But that was not always the case. Sophomore year of high school, I was 120lbs soaking wet and DID NOT want to touch a weight for the life of me.
