David Feldman, Conor McGregor bringing BKFC to Fenway Park
The fights will take place at home plate on August 29
BOSTON, MA – Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship is coming to Fenway Park.
The fights will take place on the field on Saturday, August 29, with the plan to have the ring at home plate.
BKFC founder David Feldman has created a force in combat sports. Putting on an event at the home of the Boston Red Sox is a major moment in the rise of the eight-year-old promotion, and its Fenway fight night will feature a tremendous backdrop with the Green Monster in the background.
“Boston is a place with a lot of fighters and even more fight fans,” said Feldman. “It’s a working class that doesn’t quit. That’s BKFC–we have guys who don’t know how to quit, either.”
BKFC co-owner Conor McGregor was not present at today’s press conference at Fenway. Yet McGregor’s presence always looms large in BKFC. Feldman confirmed that McGregor will be at the event next month in Boston, which will be his first major appearance since suffering an injury in a loss against Max Holloway earlier this month at UFC 329.
“I am incredibly excited to announce that Fenway Park in Boston will host our inaugural BKFC event in the state,” said McGregor in a statement. “I love Boston. I’m undefeated there. We’ll be on the field, only in Boston, only with BKFC.”
This is the first bare knuckle boxing event in Massachusetts, and Feldman confirmed that it was a process to get it approved.
“Massachusetts was on the one-yard-line for five straight years,” said Feldman. “An event being held at Fenway helped.”
The possibility exists that BKFC could fill Fenway with up to 18,000 people. That would be quite a feat, especially considering it will be necessary in a ballpark with a seating capacity of 37,000. But Feldman only knows one way, and that is the type of risk-taking that has brought BKFC to a whole new level of prominence.
“For us, it has to be a spectacle or it’s not worth doing,” said Feldman. “We have to make a big statement. Either we’re going out of business or we’re going all the way to the top. We want a record revenue for attendance for us at Fenway.”
