DON’T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS... but always assume the best
Ryan Clancy’s newest story
An emerging talent on the indie scene, “Fancy” Ryan Clancy has quickly evolved into one of the most intriguing prospects throughout the northeast. Yet a torn ACL led to complete reconstruction of Clancy’s left knee, which has temporarily removed him from the ring.
That doesn’t mean Clancy isn’t still eating, drinking, and breathing professional wrestling. Every Friday, he will share his newest story for Undisputed.
Clancy’s column is a subscriber-only feature.
Don’t make assumptions but always assume the best.
I guarantee the first thought that most of you reading that title had was, “Ryan, that doesn’t make any sense.” However, it makes all the sense in the world.
My understanding is that nothing is real except RIGHT NOW: The Present Moment. When you make assumptions, you are effectively living within a false reality of past or present. The past cannot be changed. It’s gone. There’s no going back.
The future is ever coming. As soon as that date you’re looking forward to comes, or that vacation, or whatever it is you’re looking forward to, it is already the PRESENT again. The present is the best place and the only place to be!
Therefore, why make an assumption when you don’t have even the slightest idea of what is going to happen. Here’s the fun part though. Just because you make no assumptions does not mean you can’t always assume the best-case scenario. It actually means you always do your best NOW and TRUST that the NOW will continually get better.
When you view every opportunity and instance with present moment awareness and rose-colored glasses, you will see the GOOD in everything. And you will attract a further Positive Present later on when you arrive there. Feeling good and assuming the best is therein the MOST IMPORTANT trait you can develop. I will give a brief example from my life that I think is appropriate for this lesson.
At the tail end of 2021, myself along with a few others were going up to the famous White Eagle in Worcester, Massachusetts for Beyond Wrestling’s Uncharted Territory every single week. We weren’t going up to wrestle. We were going up for the potential of opportunity.
We drove up for eight weeks straight. And not anyone’s fault, but for the most part never even got a single glimpse of acknowledgement. Some people may ask, “Why would you continue to drive three-and-a-half-hours every week for little acknowledgement and low chance of getting a match?” Well it is because we always assumed the best.
