While the rest of the world was seemingly sound asleep, a pivotal moment took place two days ago in Japan.
Out in Nagoya, which is more than 6,000 miles away from New York, Zack Sabre Jr. defeated Hirooki Goto to regain the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.
The title change came at an unexpected time. Airing as a Japanese TV live exclusive, the match was not immediately available overseas.
Goto had defeated Sabre Jr. for the belt back in February, becoming world champ for the first time in New Japan at the ripe age of 45. The “Goto Revolution” was in full effect, and the longtime wrestling veteran generated a great deal of interest among wrestling fans as he finally reached the pinnacle of success.
Now that Sabre Jr. has regained the belt, there are many moving pieces. And they all point directly toward… Kenny Omega.
