Josh Alexander: “I chose AEW because I want to be here”

Josh Alexander debuted with All Elite Wrestling this past April, making his first appearance on the April 16 edition of Dynamite.

Yet to scratch the surface of his potential in AEW, Alexander is the prototype of the brand. He signed with pro wrestling’s challenger brand–as AEW is to WWE what Pepsi is to Coke–to showcase a whole different style of grappling than is typically prevalent at the top of the industry.

Prior to AEW, Alexander wrestled for TNA/Impact Wrestling. Initially getting his break as part of a tag team–teaming alongside Ethan Page in The North–Alexander rose the singles ranks and became the face of the brand as world champion. His hard-hitting style, signature wrestling headgear, and babyface charisma became an integral part of the company’s revival.

Alexander’s last match in TNA took place in January. He then fielded offers from AEW and WWE, ultimately deciding to sign with Tony Khan’s six-year-old company. Alexander sees opportunity in AEW, where he can help the company reach new heights.

“If you believe what you read online, I just went with the highest bidder,” said Alexander with a laugh. “The truth is that the money, schedule, and things like that didn’t play into my decision as much as looking at the pool of talent I wanted to work with.”

“There’s a specific reason I signed where I did. I chose AEW because I want to be here.”

Growing up a wrestling fan, Alexander remains passionate about the craft. He has long had an appreciation for matches and wrestlers outside of WWE, watching what wrestlers could do in a different environment, which perhaps spurred his interest in AEW.
