It is the end of an era and the beginning of a new one at WrestleMania VII, which is our focus for this week’s episode.
Led by Hulk Hogan, Vince McMahon’s promotion was still leaning on its stars from the 80’s.
But this show–from the LA Sports Arena on March 24, 1991–is the start of something new in WWE. By the following year, Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels would be working their way up the card as singles performers, while the iconic/consistent runs for The Ultimate Warrior, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, Mr. Perfect, and Andre The Giant would all be a past memory. Even the Big Boss Man and Earthquake would soon be on their way out, which seemed highly unlikely at WrestleMania VII.

WrestleMania VII featured 14 matches. It somehow ran in a tighter fashion than the upcoming WrestleMania 41 extravaganza, which is scheduled to have 13 matches over two nights (and will certainly run longer than three-and-a-half hours).
There is so much to discuss: Hulkamania remained as powerful as ever, the backstage interviews were cooking, there were plenty of celebrities, and Gorilla Monsoon declared that the war was officially over. We also saw the epic clash between Warrior and Randy Savage, a match that continues to stand the test of time.
Come along for the ride–it’s 1991 all over again on High Above Ringside.
